Maybelline Lip Smooth Color and Care-Dolly Rose

Hey guys!
Sorry I have been MIA.I've sprained my right wrist and its really painful to type with it (never mind anything else :P ) Since I cannot do any makeup without my right hand (Oh The Horror!!) I thought I should atleast bang out some reviews that I have been meaning to do for a while....so stay tuned for a series of reviews while I mend my wrist :)
Today I thought of reviewing my HG lip balm which has come into my possession very recently.I had some of those coupons that your company gives you for shopping every year and decided that my most needed item was a lip balm since Shimla (I'm at my parent's place) is really drying at the best of times. So I picked up the Maybelline Lip Smooth Color and Care in Dolly Rose.

What Maybelline says about it:

  • Hydrating Lip Balm for soft supple lips
  • Protects and comforts dry, chapped lips
  • Available in 5 scrumptious flavor variants

INR 110
Its a beautiful pink tube of almost clear lip balm thats only very slightly pink in color. It is deeply moisturizing and took care of really chapped lips in a couple of hours. It does have a mild scent of bubblegum which is kinda yumm but dissipates quickly. My tube has a different colored cap dunno why!

The Yays:
  • Deeply moisturizing
  • Not sticky (unlike the Neutrogena lip balms
  • Contains SPF 16
  • Very sheer in application
  • Very lightly colored
  • Works well underneath a lipstick to fill the lines in the lips
  • Available everywhere
The Nays:
  • At INR 110 it might seem a little expensive (specially if you are like me and need a whole lot of lip balms), but its completely worth it.
  • The lip balm itself gets a little soft in the tube if its warm in the room and can be easily gouged or damaged (see how it still has the impression of the cap in the picture above)

Will I buy it again? Yes! This was my first Maybelline lip balm (yeah I can hear you gasp) but Im loving it.It has passed my Shimla test (most lip balms fail to keep my lips hydrated in the really dry climate) I will however try another flavour next though.Maybe Mandarin!

I give it : 4.8/5

NOTD - Pathera onca on my nails

Hey everyone!
This is what we are looking at in this week, and I will be submitting it for next weeks entry in the "We Love Nails" group :) Enjoy!
I know all my nails are different length but I bloke some and some just split while packing books etc. in preparation to move (temporarily). So you are gonna see a short index fingernail below.I received my bottle of Essie nail paint - Matte About You which surprise of all surprises was found on Urban Touch!! So after the bottle was opened it was only right that I show you guys what it does right?
So you can see that my thumbnail and ring finger nail has been turned matte while the other nails are still sporting a creme finish. In my opinion though you need to apply 2 coats of the creme nailpaint before you do the matte coat.

Moving on, on my all 5 mattified nails, I used the same black creme paint (Maybelline Colorama  in Intenso Black) to make the jaguar like markings (tutorial done here). This gave me:

Lemme know how you like it :)

The Importance of Hygiene in a Make-up Junkie's Life

Hey everyone I have a breakout on my cheek :(
Which got me thinking that I do wanna talk to you about an important issue!Today lets talk about something all makeup junkies face and yet do not give much time to.Good hygiene is key to maintaining a clear face and that is half the battle won.We know it, we understand it, but we don't adopt it! Did you know that every time we use a makeup brush we are leaving millions of skin cells on it, which are then preyed on by millions of bacteria and then we use it over our face again! Feel yucky yet??
Just like a restaurant can be judged from its clean kitchen, you can tell a retailer from the way the goods are arranged. All big makeup retailers like Sephora and Ulta look for waitressing experience while hiring.Reason: maintaining hygienic conditions and general upkeep is common to both jobs.
We feel we don't want to try on testers in stores (specially for lip products) but we forget that our make up brushes are lying unwashed at home.Unwashed brushes cause acne, breakouts, skin irritations, hives and a whole lot of other problems.

Your make up brushes are a very important part of the whole experience, good care of them not only rewards you with a great look but also long life and value extraction.
Take a couple of these tips and find your way to a clearer face:
  1. Invest in good quality brushes: This is not to say you need to rush out right now and splurge on MAC.There are some great brushes out there at half the price.Real Techniques, Faces, Bourjois, Lilyth, Sigma are all great companies with great brushes.Im sure there are some local companies that have good quality brushes in your country.I have heard my Middle-Eastern friends raving about Mikyajy.Even our own Vega can be horrible with some brushes and great with others.
  2. Clean your brushes well: Just mix a little bit of olive oil and baby shampoo and use the mixture to wash your brushes.Rinse with clean water and place FLAT on a clean paper towel to dry. DO NOT STAND THEM VERTICALLY UPRIGHT.This allows the water to drip into the ferrule and loosen the glue holding the brush together resulting in hair shedding and the metal ferrule may just pop out the next time u use it.
  3. Clean your brushes as per use: If you use one kind of a brush more than others, it needs to be washed more frequently. For eg. I use my Foundation, Stippling and Blush brush everyday but my lipstick brush is hardly ever used. Therefore, logically I should wash them once or even twice a week.Along the same logic, your brushes for liquid, creme and gel products need to be washed more often than dry applicators like powder blushes and bronzers.
All this makes sense right? We spend so much money and effort to keep our faces blemish-free and keep zits/ breakouts away, lets try this one option and see how our efforts make a difference!

French Mani with a Lace Trim

Hi all,
One of the classic trends of nailpaint couture is the french manicure.Simply put, this is basically a manicure to make the pink part of your nail pinker and white part whiter. But this year has seen it go from a simple pink, white and top coat to wild and outrageous colors.Other than that it has also evolved into a reverse french manicure.Today I'm posting a straight-up french with a little twist, a super simple look that I often use.I especially love it as it allows me to be a little creative and still wear it to work :)

Also as "we love nails" group theme for this tuesday is "reverse or french manicure",I am going to link this as my submission  for this week :)

Products used:
  • Nail Paints: Colorbar Exclusive #39 as Base Coat, Top Coat, Maybelline Colorama Cafe Latte, Lotus #81 Pure White

Papaya for Summer - Revlon Style!

Hey my beauties!Today's gloss in my review series is  the Revlon Colorburst lip gloss #20 in Papaya, a coral/ orange shade with some shimmer. Doesn't it remind you of the succulent flesh of a perfectly ripe papaya?Just like its namesake, this lipgloss is also perfect for the summers. To know why, read on....

Price: INR 500          Volume: 5.9 ml
Packaging: It comes in a cardboard tubing to protect the actual tube from scratches. The lipgloss tube itself is made of sturdy clear plastic in a square-ish shape with rounded corners. The cap is black plastic in matte finish and quilted design of the Colorburst product line with Revlon in gold on it.

Applicator:  its a cylindrical bit of foam at the end of a long white wand. This long wand makes it difficult to control and the application in streaky.

Color: Its a very different color in the entire release, the rest are mostly shimmer shades in peach, plum and pinks. This however comes across as an almost matte shade due to its micro shimmer particles. As you can see, although there is some fine shimmer, it's difficult to see when applied because its tiiiiiiiiiiny and of the same color, and really just adds dimension rather than adding obvious shimmer. The color intensity is perfect when you apply it but fades in a few minutes.I think that it my only problem with this shade.
See how the color has muted and become almost like lipbalm in the second picture ------------------------------------------->

Texture: I like this formula because I don't find it too sticky or slippery (Hello MAC?!)

Moisturising Properties: very little hydrating effect on the lips.

Staying Power: around 1.5-2 hours with no eating.

Other Pros: It does fill out the lines of the lips, making them appear smooth and luscious. The fine shimmer helps in giving a plumper look to the lips.It is a good color to use over your tangerine and coral lipsticks to add a bit of dimension.

Portable: one can carry it easily, even though its larger than your average gloss tubes. But I hate it getting scratched which happens way too easily, specially in my purse!!

Why is it out of stock on almost all Revlon counters?:

  1. Its a really different shade and one that suits everybody and anybody.
  2. The micro-shimmers are so tiny as compared to large and obvious.
  3. Its a great alternative for those who hate wearing lipsticks in the summer heat, like me.
  4. A very natural shade, and doesnt make you feel too made up :)
  5. Lip gloss junkies :D
